Elk at Yellowstone Geyser

The hundreds of geysers that dot Yellowstone National Park are life-giving sources for wildlife there.  The steamy warmth helps them survive long, cold, snowbound winters, but they are dangerous as well. The thinly crusted geyser may swallow an animal if he missteps.  This unusual nature photograph captures an elk, who has shed his coat and antlers, as he circles around the hazards of a typical Yellowstone geyser.
